WanChuan Kesler

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, WanChuan Kesler was raised in an atmosphere of lavish natural beauty. The mountains and oceans around this little island influenced and heightened her natural artistic talents, in addition to the countless inspirations she found in the metropolitan atmosphere of Taipei. Kesler followed her artistic aspirations after she moved to the United States. After earning an MS in Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1987-1988), she studied for five years (1990-1995) at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Michigan. She currently lives in a rural area near Ann Arbor where she can, again, experience both nature and urbanity. She also cites the progressive, diverse nature of the college town as inspirational for her work.

Much of Kesler’s artwork displays her interest in this multicultural environment; with vibrant colors and bold, expressive texture, her paintings often depict people and urban scenes. Primarily working with oil on canvas, some of her greatest skills are in regard to light and shadow patterns. Kesler’s creations have been well received – while in Taiwan, she earned a number of first place and honorable mention awards for her art, in addition to being asked to participate in quite a few juried art exhibitions in Michigan, including the Michigan Fine Arts Competition, the Michigan Annual, and the Scarab Club Silver Medal.
