Tjawina Nampitjinpa

Born in 1940, Tjawina Nampitjinpa grew up 'in the bush' at Yumara. Her family later moved to the established government settlement of Papunya.

Initially a basket weaver, Tjawina paints now paints her mother's and father's dreaming; the sites of Yumara, Punkilpirri and Tjalili. These sites are significant for ceremonies and are also sources for water and food.

Her paintings are modernist in frequency. The works are of great importance within her community. Tjawina has become one of the most collectible emerging artists from the central desert. Her works are held in many private and international collections.
