Govinder Nazran

Govinder Nazran (1964-2008) had a very artistically varied career. After graduating from Lincoln Art College in England with a specialization in illustration, Nazran moved to London to work on illustrations for children’s books. Following this, Nazran moved to Cambridge to work as a freelance illustrator, which led to a wide array of interesting work. Eventually, Nazran felt called to move back to his hometown of Saltaire in West Yorkshire. In Saltaire, he accepted the position of a designer for a greeting card company, where he was in charge of all aspects of design and development. The position was tiring, however, and Nazran eventually opted for the quieter life of designing cards freelance. Finally, in 1999, Nazran decided to enter the fine arts market. He began working with the Washington Green Gallery, who published over 40 of his designs.

Nazran was naturally shy, so he expressed his personality through his paintings. Primarily, his paintings show the dichotomy between good and evil as well as innocence and malevolence, but at the same time express his eternal optimism.
