Renee Steger Simpson

Raised in West Texas, Renee Steger Simpson has always enjoyed being surrounded by art and creativity. She began focusing on watercolor in 1990, and had her first show in 1994. She has expanded into collage, mixed media, oil painting, and even hand cast pewter, as always, using her experiences gleaned from childhood, travels around the world, and interesting interactions to inspire her colorful, eye-catching images.

Simpson has gained recognition for her popular series, "Snooty Women", quirky characters full of attitude and sass that are informed by memories of charm school and etiquette workshops and modeling classes...in direct contrast to that, another project dear to her heart is her "Saints" series, inspired by her recent time painting in and traveling through the Umbria region of Italy. "I am fascinated by the lives of these extraordinary human beings who dared to become more through their incredible faith and passion for their purpose in life...I try to use shape and color to entice the viewer to look beyond the religious connotation of saints and deeper into the lives of those who went before us and can show us how to realize our truest and best potential."

Her palette is richly saturated with warm bright colors, and her style is quite unique and varied...from acrylic on canvas to hand cast pewter, Simpson loves the creative process in every medium, and it shows.
