Paine Proffitt was born in the United States and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Brighton, in England, before settling in England permanently. His distinctive, dreamlike work is a study in exploring identity, how we define “home,” and how our idea of home shapes who we are. This preoccupation with “history, culture, and our identity through where we live” is a product of Proffitt’s childhood, which was spent moving all over the world as his parents continued to relocate to various locations due to their jobs.

Proffitt also creates art that investigates sport and the personal connection that people have with their sport or team of choice. He aims to bring the passion of these works into his non-sport works as well. Proffitt has shown his work in galleries around the world, in the U.S. and in England, and has been acquired by private collectors, corporations, and museums. “I hope my work celebrates the beauty and art of life and love, and the emotional connections we feel,” Proffitt says. “In my paintings, I’ve wanted to touch on our feelings for who we are, where we come from, and what we care about.”
