After returning to Taiwan in 1980, Michell Hwang began to experience firsthand the environment if growth in Taiwan, explore the special characteristics of Far Eastern culture, and actively join in local artistic movements. Beginning in 1981, Hwang gradually started participating in exhibitions both at home and abroad, and won the honor of being exempted from review in participating in the Taiwan Annual Fine Arts Exhibition. At the same time in 1992 he left his mark at art auctions held by the Chwan Chis Art Company and Taiwan Sotheby's. He broke new artistic ground once again in 1993 with the issuing of the limited editionj serigraphs of his works. Between his first solo exhibition in 1976 and his return to Taiwan, Michell Hwang's unique style won him a number of Aawards after he began to participate in both domestic and international exhibitions. in 1980. His consecutive first place honors in the 35th and 36th Annual TaiwanFine Arts Exhibition and exemption from review in future contests stand out as some of his greatest honors.
