Mayhuay

Born in Peru, Mayhuay comes from a long line of dedicated and accomplished painters. In fact, his ancestors were sponsored by the Spanish elite to "spread the word of God through religious art." Although that is not Mayhuay's explicit goal with his own art, he follows the classical painting style of his predecessors.

Mayhuay studied at the School of Arts in Cuozco, Peru, where he refined his personal style of classic, refined landscapes and expansive vistas. As one reviewer described his art, "Overcast skies and shadows are pieces by ribbons of light and sporadic flashes of intense color." Mayhuay's use of light and color on roaming hills and placid lakes is a large part of what defines his unique artwork. The light seems to symbolize something great, as one art critic suggested. "This light guides the journeyer through a dark terrain and gives incentive to complete the journey - point the way to its end." Perhaps, Mayhuay's artwork is spiritually inclined after all.
