Artist Mark Holland-Hicken is passionate about beauty and emotion, and finds that the female form brings these two passions together in a way that nothing else can. Holland-Hicken’s artworks are created through a contemporary spin on the camera obscura; he transfers a photograph detail onto canvas and, after hours of mixing paint shades, begins to paint the canvas with vinyl paint, which provides a soft matte finish. He utilizes the talents of his good friend and photographer Gabriele Rigon, a skilled capturer of the female form, to create the source images for his breathtaking artworks. Holland-Hicken paints from dark to light in his tonal compositions and often fine-tunes the final image for days or weeks.
