Born in New York, Kate McCavitt left the urban race to live and work near an Oceanside, California wildlife conservation corridor. Although McCavitt began painting in 1985, it took more than fifteen years of owning her own business before making art her full-time career.

McCavitt has studied Oriental Philosophy for decades and is a trained Sumi-e artist; her passion for the Far East shines in all her artwork, making the most of her leanings toward bold colors and strong contrasts.

McCavitt says herself, “My inspiration is the infinite and the infinitesimal, and mostly, the ordinary.”
