Jeremy Paul

Jeremy Paul was born in Lancashire in the UK in 1954 and had a successful career as a marine biologist before he turned to art. He first experienced true wilderness on research trips to remote areas of the British Isles and the west coast of Scotland. Paul began to paint seriously around this time, and continued to do so during the 1980s, while he headed a research and development program in the Scottish Highlands.

Paul is a completely self-taught artist, and does the majority of his work in acrylics. Many an hour is spent in field observations so that he can depict the atmosphere of the setting and the feel of the wildlife in its natural environment. A book of his work was published in 2007, and in 2010 he was named the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year.
