Hector Monroy

Hector "Monrock" Monroy was born in the small mountain village of Landa de Matamoros, Queretaro in Mexico in 1953. Shortly after his family moved to nearby Mexico City. As a child in the 60's, Monrock began drawing and painting cowboys, horses, and typical landscapes, taking his inspiration from TV Westerns such as "Gunsmoke" and "The Lone Ranger".

By the time the 70's rolled around, Monrock's inspiration was stoked by the iconic Rock Music of the era, particularly the Beatles. His first passion was painting, but while studying at the ESDAP Academy of Art Advertising and Artistic Drawing, he broadened his scope in the audiovisual communications industry to include advertising, graphic art and design.

But remaining a music and film fanatic, Monrock has dedicated the last 35 years to painting original tribute portraits of Icons, Myths and Legends of Rock Music and Hollywood Movies. Noted for capturing the detail and personality of those nostalgic decades, his work is collected around the world and he has exhibited throughout California and his native Mexico.
