Graeme Stevenson

"What would you like to be when you grow up?" A five year old Graeme Stevenson answered, "An artist!" And so it came to be. Born June 29th, 1958, in New South Wales, Australia, this young buckaroo had a tremendous fascination with the world around him, and from this he began painting and studying animals. Stevenson is largely self-taught. He is a real go-getter in every sense, breeding parrots and learning the art of falconry while still a teen, obtaining his pilot's license and eventually traveling around the world.

In 1988 he was commissioned to produce all of the paintings for the book 'The Atlas of Parrots', one of the largest editions of its size in the world, displayed in the Natural History Museums of New York, Paris and London. Always the explorer, Stevenson now divides his time between residences in both the US and Australia. He is able to study the many varied animals of America and is producing a series of paintings that enable him to explore many different ideas and present work that has the ability to tell stories of the subjects he paints.
