Gina Plunder

Born in 1964 in Romania, Gina Plunder lives and works as a visual artist in Rastatt, Germany. Plunder studied painting and graphic art at the University in Bucharest and at the free Academy of Art and Graphic Design in Freiburg, Germany.

Plunder’s work moves in the border areas between painting and drawing, figuration and geometry, and between illusion and reality. She sets out to capture the light in her paintings though a complicated process of layering with acrylic paint, while integrating monotype print and paper targets to add structure. Her objective is to lead the viewer through imaginary spaces and optical illusions, which often form the framework for her surreal creations.

Plunder is a member of the GEDOK German and Austrian Artists association. Since 2004, she has been a lecturer at the Land Academy of Art and Theater Castle in Rotenfels, Germany. Plunder’s work has been exhibited in New York, Miami, Germany, Barcelona and China, while her work is on exhibit in museums in both Germany and Bejing.
