Clint Sloan

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1965, Clint Sloan was always interested in the visual arts, but he never took any art courses or had any professional training. Despite this lack of formal art education, Sloan was accepted into the Northwest Watercolor Society when he was only 21 years old. He has been painting professionally since 1985, celebrating his debut in the national fine arts scene in 1991, when he was a juried exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters/Festival of Arts. Since then, Sloan has been invited back to display his original paintings numerous times, and many other doors have opened up for him.

Sloan’s early watercolor paintings have a fluid feel to them. With dreamy landscapes depicting old homes, buildings burdened by age, and sweeping skies, he infuses Realist paintings with an otherworldly light. He was particularly inspired by the innumerable inland waterways and lush landscapes that characterize the Pacific Northwest. Sloan moved south in to Los Angeles in 1988 and the following few years produced a new style of watercolors. By the mid-nineties, however, he decided it was time to follow an old dream, so he moved to Hawaii in 1996. It was here that Sloan became truly inspired; surrounded by tropical scenery, powerful oceans, and unending beauty, his new work took on a richer light. He was soon featured in the world-renowned Wyland Galleries of Hawaii and by 2000 he had opened his own fine art gallery in Kona. Sloan enjoys the business side of art, in addition to the passion he has for painting, because he can continue to personally interact with the many art enthusiasts who collect his work while remaining surrounded by the natural beauty of the great islands of Hawaii.
