Chris Hill

Chris Hill likes to make people look at things differently than they normally would, and he employs numerous techniques to achieve his objective. He often tries to provoke his viewers “to investigate and find their own explanations.” Growing up on South Florida’s Gold Coast, with its heavy Latin and Caribbean influences, Chris believes “there is harmony between aggressive, man-made shapes, and passive, organic forms.” The organic influence, along with Chris’s observant eye for natural form and function, stems from a deep seated love for the outdoors. Texture is equally important in the work of the Jacksonville State Alum, he prefers “something that’s more than just visual; it should be tangible, so you can reach out, touch it, and feel that there is something in there beyond color.” Whereas originally Hill started out very methodical in his artistic approach, recently he has begun to experience a “freeing up and looseness of styles,” a movement more towards emotion than actual thought process, saying: “instead of going stage by stage, my work has become more reactionary.”
