Charles Hewitt's Fascinating, abstract layered paintings and prints are put together with crisp, graphic stenciled shapes from the artist's files of personal images. Born in 1946 in Lewiston Maine, Charles Hewitt now resides and works in New York. A Painter and Master Print Maker, Hewitt's main territory is the Abstract. He infuses his works with a variety of Color and Texture, along with recognizable images such as the sun, eyes, bouys and water. Hewitt's Selected Public Collections are located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (N.Y.C.), Museum of Modern Art (N.Y.C.), New York Public Library, M.I.T. Visual Arts Center (Cambridge, M.A.) Hewitt has also recieved awards and grants that include: New York State Council on the Arts, CAPS Grant-1974. New York Foundation of the Arts-2000, 1997.
