Ashton Howard
A self-taught artist raised on the gulf coast of Florida, Ashton Howard has catapulted to the highest ranks of the fine art world in recent years. Inspired by the environment of his youth, Howard’s artwork primarily depicts the natural beauty of oceans and the tropics that evades most people in their daily lives. His paintings are striking because of the clear moods they portray: with mystery and energy, the scenes he recreates can express feelings of early morning tranquility, powerful, jarring tidal waves, or the peace of the seaside. As Howard explains it, “My art has always been very deep and moody; it reflects all the magical times I have experienced when the perfect light embraces nature. To me, it is much more than imagining a perfect wave or landscape, it is about a connection with those who truly appreciate nature, the outdoors, and living a life encircled by the beauty of our oceans.”
Howard learned what he knows about painting tropical views by spending his time around them. He spent his youth on the beaches of Florida, admiring the fine white sand and gem-hued sea. For years, he lived as a struggling artist and surfer on the coast of California, where he could study the whirling waves and sandy scenes. He has traveled the tropics around the world to gain inspiration and experience. With oil and acrylic paints on textured canvas, he passes on his own experiences in passionate, intricate, and unmistakably unique paintings of the tropics. Howard’s work has been displayed in renowned galleries around the world and is particularly popular in the coastal and tropical specialty studios of the US, Hawaii, Canada and Japan.
