Andree Chenier

Ever since he was five years old, Andree Chenie has enjoyed creating things with his hands. It started, he recalls, “when I made a three-dimensional ‘universe’ to accompany an astronaut toy figure I had.” Using a cardboard box, construction paper, markers, scissors, and his young imagination, Chernier began his career as an artist. Over the years he has also explored sewing, sketching, and painting, but building and sculpting artwork is what speaks to him most. “As a child, I used to be able to play with clay for hours on end … some things never change.”

Chenier specializes in gargoyle sculptures on a small scale using polymer clays. The little creatures he lovingly sculpts seem to come to life under his hands and his careful attention to detail makes them a source of endless fascination for anyone who sees them. Chenier continues to expand his artistic repertoire; he experiments with watercolors and occasionally takes sculpture courses and drawing classes. Whatever the medium he uses, he always amazes his viewers. Chenier has collected first place and other awards at juried art shows and exhibitions online and in Canada and continues to attract attention for his talents.
