Hailing from Guangzhou, China, An He was born in 1957 and grew up in an artistic family. His father was a respected professor of art and An He flourished under his tutelage. At the age of 24, this gifted and well educated artist was invited to be part of the All China Artist Association - an exclusive and professional group of China's finest artists. He was the youngest person ever to join. Following this distinction were commissions to illustrate hundreds of book covers and publications, as well as the creation of a prodigious body of original artworks.

On the heels of national acclaim in his mother country, An He chose to emigrate to America, settling in San Francisco by 1988, finding equal success and inspiration in his new home.
