Mr. Barker was born in Paterson, New Jersey and raised in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. While living in the metropolitan area, Al spent a great deal of time in the outdoors which influenced his decision to study and eventually become a professional forester and teacher. He was educated at the University of West Virginia, University of Rhode Island and Rutgers University, New Jersey. Presently, he is teaching environmental science and resides in Bordentown with his wife and two children. Professional teaching experience has enabled him to spend a goodly amount of time in the field studying nature, and his keen interest in his environment has encouraged Al to teach himself to paint watercolors; his concern for the natural environment is reflected in his work by a predominately earth colored palette.
