Michael Joseph

Michael Joseph (1965-2009) was a critically acclaimed and celebrated Celebrity and Sports Artist, who also explored Abstract and Landscape Painting. Michael grew up an avid athlete, but quickly found he enjoyed art better. "Playing sports didn't give me the same satisfaction as drawing sports." It was later when he caught his first glimpse of realistic pencil drawings that Michael dedicated himself with zeal to his greatest passion. "I thought they were black-and-white photos. I couldn't believe how realistic the drawings were." He sought out the artist of those pieces, Milwaukee-based Elwin Broughton, and Michael flourished under his tutelage, perfecting his signature style using acrylics, oils and occasionally pencil. Michael when on to become one of the most popular artists in the world. He received numerous distinctions and accolades, including a commission from Major League Baseball to paint three commemorative home plates for the 2004 World Series. Tragically, at the age of 43, Michael Joseph passed away on December 8, 2009 from a terminal brain tumor.
