Mary Betzenderfer was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Throughout childhood she was interested and involved in painting and music. Though she graduated from the University of Iowa in occupational therapy, she continued art study and focused her painting on portraits. Betzenderfer has been noted for a style that reflects light and color in floral landscapes and wildlife depictions. One of her greatest achievements was winning the Andrew Carnegie Award.
