John Meyer

In the past, South African artist John Meyer has dabbled in landscape and portraiture, but his most recent work has been in narrative art. These newest pieces are moody and cinematic; they immediately immerse the viewr in a fabricated world that reflects our own. Meyer studied at the Johannesburg Technical College School of Art and worked in advertising and as a freelance illustrator before he began to paint professionally in the early 1970s. Since that time, he has gained an international reputation; Meyer was chosen to paint the portraits of such notable figures as Nobel Peace Prize winners Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk and the pianist Vladimir Horowitz. Meyer has also exhibited widely through the United States, Europe, and South Africa.
