Born in 1961 in Salinas, CA, John Cole Baker has been producing consistently intense and perceptive images since childhood. Over the years, Baker has developed interest and skill in painting, sculpting, woodworking, and weaving, graduating from Cal State Sacramento and joining with six other artists to open The Prophetic Aesthetic Studio in Los Angeles, CA. Baker’s sculptures and other works on paper and canvas appear in private and public collections throughout the world, and about his process he has stated: “I believe to this day that I was completely formed as an artist by the time I was twelve. My perspective was totally developed and since then I’ve only expanded on that basis very slightly. That leads to a simple purity in my work, I think.”
