Henry Charles Lee was born in New York City in 1864 and died in Paris in 1930. A writer, painter, lecturer, and archeologist, Lee was a pupil of Josef Israels and George Holston. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the Group des Peintures et Sculpteurs Americains de Paris, the Lotos Club, and also the Society of Illustrators.
