Eugenijus Tamosiunas
Born in 1953 in Lithuania, Eugenijus Tamosiunas creates works that exemplify his culture and folk heritage through the medium of ceramics. Attending Art School in 1973 was just the beginning of Eugenijus’ journey into the world of art. In 1980, Eugenijus became a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists' Union (LFAU), in the ceramics section of Vilnius, the picturesque capital city of Lithuania. In 2002, Eugenijus moved to the United States.
As a folk artist, Eugenijus makes vases, jugs, earthenware pots, mugs and a variety of other utilitarian and decorative pieces corresponding with Lithuanian traditions that have a rich and fascinating history dating back hundreds of years. His pieces are highly regarded for their superior artistic and technical qualities. Eugenijus traditionally fires some pieces to cone 10 in a gas kiln reduction technique, and other pieces to cone 5 in an electric kiln technique, creating a spectrum of rich earth tones, cobalt blues and teal greens with high-gloss finishes and rustic matte surfaces. He is listed in the book “Works of Lithuanian Folk Artists,” issued in 2001 by the LFAU’s Vilnius community.
Eugenijus’ works are featured in the LFAU Vilnius community gallery and he has participated in various exhibitions and trade fairs. His art has been exhibited in many countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Belgium, France, Russia, Poland, and Germany, as well as markets and fairs throughout California.
