Wu Ching Ju

Growing up in Fonglin, Taiwan, Wu Ching Ju was fascinated with the ancient traditions and history of the Chinese culture. When she finished secondary school, Ju studied oriental humanities, which helped develop her interest in the ancient art of flower arranging. In 1993, Ju moved to Maastricht, the Netherlands, where she began taking painting and sculpting classes. Ju fell in love with sculpting and soon adopted it as her main medium of expression. Ju involves herself in the entire process of making a sculpture—she works on the cast and finishes it off with polishing and patination.

Ju fuses Chinese and Western culture, and her inspiration stems from the history, legends, and religions of China. Ju splits her time between her home in Maastricht and Shanghai, where she goes to soak up more cultural inspiration. Ju’s work has attracted collectors in Europe, the U.S.A, the Middle East, and China, and since becoming a full-time sculptor in 1996, she has a 19 solo shows.
