Ryan Leaf

As a teenager in Montana in the 1990's Ryan Leaf was one of the most promising quarterbacks around, going on to become a distinguished finalist in balloting for college football's coveted Heisman Trophy while at Washington State. After making it to the 1998 Rose Bowl - an honor for any college football star - Leaf chose to enter the NFL Draft just shy of his senior year. Picked up by the San Diego Chargers, Leaf signed the largest deal by a rookie ever at the time, to much fanfare and high hopes for a stellar career in pro football. Although daunted by injuries, personal issues and an eventual early retirement from the sport, Leaf earned a spot in NFL history as one of the NFL's most intriguing and talented players.
