Born in Kostroma, Russia, Dmitri Volkov was initially inspired by the paintings of his father. It was at the age of 5 that Dmitri first displayed exceptional artistic potential and proclaimed that he too would become an artist, just like his father. At ages 9 through 12, Dmitri attended the Childhood Arts School, an institution that only the most gifted of children could attend.

From 1982 to 1988, he attended Moscow Art College, where he studied under the famed A. Baranov. After a two-year tour in the army, Dmitri resumed his education at the prestigious Russian Academy of Arts, studying under Glavunov Ilea. Dmitri graduated with a red diploma, the highest honor achievable. In 2000, he has honored to be chosen by former Soviet President Gorbachev to join an elite team of artists who painted frescos in the main cathedral of Moscow. Dmitri enjoys creating portraiture, landscapes and still lifes.

Dmitri paints oils on canvas, in a photo realistic style, although he also enjoys Impressionism. His favorite subject is people, either in portraiture or in spontaneous moments he captures with a high degree of passion and skill. He is truly one of the most proficient portraits artists in the world today.
