Vakhtang was born in 1972 in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. His grandfather, a well-known Georgian artist, often took him as a child to his studio and taught him how to draw and paint. Beginning at the age of five, Vakhtang started to participate in exhibitions of children's paintings and in 1989 he received a gold medal in a national juried competition. This was followed by another honorary diploma in a children's art competition before the age of 18.

Vakhtang was accepted to the Tbilisi Academy of Art in 1996. In 1999, while studying at St. Petersburg Academy of fine art, he first saw the works of Levitan and Coro. This had a huge impact on his vision of art and helped shape him as an artist. He began to paint landscapes, but in a way that showed his feelings and his inner world. Within his landscapes, he can give people warm feelings and positive emotions. Vakhtang experimented with several styles, he tried painting in surrealism and hyperrealism. Eventually he developed his own which he refers to as "Lyrical Landscape".
