Christopher Penny

Christopher Neil Lewis Penny, artist and teacher, was born in Blandford Forum, Dorset in 1947 and studied at Bournemouth College of Art. Early in his art career, Penny contributed prints to the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which led to a fellowship at the Norwich School gallery. Penny's reputation as a fine-art printmaker led to limited-edition etchings from several prominent international publishing houses. The National Trust, American Express, Eastern Electricity, Phillips Petroleum and a number of Cambridge colleges commissioned images of his. Penny later concentrated on his own prints and a fine series of watercolours. His affection for the English landscape was rekindled and he honed an interest in historic architecture. Chris Penny's reputation grew as he participated in many solo and mixed shows in Europe, America, Japan and Australia. His one-man exhibitions included one at Cambridge Contemporary Art in 1995. Penny's work is displayed in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, in addition to the sultans of Oman and Brunei, the Duchess of Kent, Ludovic Kennedy, Janet Suzman and Bill Wyman who are among the notable private buyers of his work.
