Christian Tile

Christian Tile Grew up in Los Angeles, California and always knew he would become an artist. He studied commercial art at the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design, and continued his undergraduate studies at Woodbury College until 1952. He then attended the Beaux-Arts Academie in Paris, France. During his stay in Europe, he spent a great deal of time in the studios of a variety of contemporary masters including Andre L'Hote, Oskar Kokoschka and Fernand Leger. After earning a degree at the Beaux-arts Academie, he devoted time to painting at the Academie Julian. It was during this time that Christian was enrolled at the Sorbonne University, where he earned a doctorate in 1955. In 1956, Title finished his studies in Europe and returned to the United States. Tile was influenced by two artists in neighboring studios. They were Paul Gerchik and Milton Gershgoren. For Christian this influence brought about a much more brilliant palette while forming his own style. Christian opened DeVille Galleries in 1957. He is one of the leading dealers of turn of the century American Impressionism paintings in the country. He started Colville Publishing in 1981 to represent the limited edition prints from a group of artists he personally selected. Christian is the chairman of Colville Publishing and uses his all-encompassing art education and his own artistic talent combined with 43 years of gallery sales experience to create a publishing firm that represents today's outstanding contemporary artists.
