Barbara Newcomb was born in Virginia in 1936. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Syracuse University and then she attended the Central School of Art and Design in London where she received a diploma in etching with distinction. Her work is represented in the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Arts Council, the Albertina Museum, Vienna, as well as at the Bibliotheque National, Paris, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Brooklyn Museum and the Los Angeles County Art Museum. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and a memeber fo the Printmakers Council.
