Amanda Hone

Born in England and raised in Scotland, Amanda Hone now lives beneath the Snowdonian mountings in Wales in virtual isolation. A creative child, Hone used art to express herself in her youth. “I was a dreadful child, willful and pig-headed” she explains; painting gave her the opportunity to be stubborn and express her own opinion without having to necessarily conform to others’. Having been regarded as a “lost cause” by teachers by the time she was fifteen, Hone considers herself a self-taught artist. “I willfully abandon all good technique and teaching in the sheer pleasure of thwacking the paint on the canvas in whatever manner takes my fancy.”

Hone finds such creative pleasure no matter what media she uses. She can use paint, pastel, wax, or wool; she can paint on two square meters of canvas or knit herself a little hat. Whatever the process or result, Hone uses color as the guiding principle in her artwork. Always eager to play with and explore new combinations of colors and light and shadow, she says it has always been her goal to discover a new color that has never before been seen. It is this ambition and creativity that drives Hone’s artwork and it is no surprise that her paintings are always well-received.
