Born in 1959 in Kaunas, Lithuania, Shaul Kosman grew up in Lithuania's economic, academic and cultural center. Along with his lifelong love of both playing and listening to jazz, Kosman credits much of his aesthetic sense to being raised in a historical atmosphere rich in classic European architecture. Though Kosman painted throughout his childhood, he began to take his craft seriously when he enrolled in the Academy of Arts in Vilnius. After graduating in 1983, he eventually left his homeland, immigrating to Israel in 1997 where his love for classic shapes and jazz music transformed into a deep understanding of the pulse of the modern city. His paintings are a rich combination of acrylic and oil paint layered and textured using tools, spoons and other utensils. His expansive use of vibrant and brilliant colors enhances the content of his work and draws the viewer into his world.
