Born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, Mary Johnston’s natural creativity was initially encouraged by her mother. Her childhood home was walking distance from the world-class museum, The Tweed Museum of Art, where she says she never missed an exhibit. The Museum was on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where Johnston eventually attended college. After graduating, Johnston moved to New Jersey, but growing up on the Great Lakes created in her a lasting sense that the natural world is more beautiful and mysterious than we will ever know. As a contemporary landscape painter, she is passionate about capturing the natural wonder of the large expansive sky, peaceful water, and quite green forests. Johnston currently lives in Carmel, Indiana but exhibits her work throughout the Midwest, East Coat and beyond.
