Fabian Lijtmaer was born in 1974 in NYC to Jewish parents from Argentina. Recognizing his own sensitivity as a child, Fabian recalls that he started painting at the age of eight in order to create a sanctuary free from challenging emotions. In his own words, “I channel shapes, color and movement. In a sense it is letting go. Releasing the shackles which bind me to the physical world and allowing me to walk upon a different plane, the realm of the spirit”

After high school, Fabian left the suburbs of Northern New Jersey and attended Vassar College where he studied fine arts. It was at Vassar where he unearthed a love for spirituality, which subsequently became the wellspring for his art. After graduation, a backpacking trip through the Andes Mountains sparked a global journey and Fabian voyaged to the high grasslands of Tibet, to underwater kingdoms in Indonesia and to Japan where he lived for two years while producing a feature documentary.

For Fabian, painting is a form of meditation; a means to transform that which is encased in darkness into light, and ultimately, a way to facilitate a personal dialogue with g-d. In the process, he hopes that his art becomes a gateway that the viewer can use to build a sanctuary of stillness within themselves.
