Christina Habibi is the daughter of an American Artist and an Iranian businessman. Born in Tehran, Iran she moved to the US at the age of 3. During her childhood, US-Iranian relations drastically changed, and Habibi cultivated a sharpened focus on misconception, perception and paradigm; this focus is captured in her abstract paintings, which are fluid and have a shape-shifting quality. The viewer begins to observe the painting determined to define a form, but finds the form elusive.
Misconception, perception and paradigm are also themes embedded in Habibi's Structural Art. Her use of copper tubing as an interior design element is a divergence from the material's utilitarian purpose. Copper tubing, which is most often hidden behind walls and in discreet locations is now re-appropriated into aesthetic centerpieces within a space. The juxtaposition of this industrial material with a refined living space conveys the limitless existence of alternative narratives. The slow patina of the copper speaks to the infinite potential for perceptual change.
