Jerry Rice

Born in 1962 to a working-class Mississippi family, Jerry Rice played high school from his youth. Rice says his football career began when he played hooky from high school in the tenth grade – when he was caught, he set off running and the principal remarked upon his speed to the school’s football coach. In high school, Rice was an All-State end and defensive back and won a scholarship from Mississippi Valley State University. Rice excelled from the very start and eventually won many awards with his football teams, including three Super Bowl rings while playing with the San Francisco 49ers and an AFC Championship while he played with the Oakland Raiders. Rice himself was selected to the Pro Bowl thirteen times and was named All-Pro 10 times in 20 years; he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of fame in 2010.
