Bobby Jones

One of the best amateur golfers of all time, Bobby Jones (March 17, 1902 – December 18, 1971) was very sickly as a child and began golfing at the age of six as a way to get some exercise. Almost immediately, he showed a natural born talent for the sport and was soon regularly beating even adults at the game. Though he went to law school and made his living as a lawyer, Jones was wildly successful on the golf tournament circuit. With a meteoric rise to golfing fame, Jones became the first person ever to win all four major championships in the same year (1930) - earning the newly dubbed Grand Slam title. He actually retired from golfing at the very young age of 28 - already burnt out by incessant touring, fame and the pressure to compete. He was recognized as the top amateur athlete in the United States, and is the only sports figure to receive two ticker-tape parades in New York City, the first in 1926 and the second in 1930. He did eventually return to the game, and gained even more recognition for being a consummate "good sport" with his impeccable sense of fairness and honesty. Today, the Bobby Jones legend lives on, with a full line of golf clothes, clubs and accessories.
