Murray Eisner
Born in 1957 and raised in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York, Murray Eisner exhibited natural artistic skills from a very young age: when he was only three years old, he was featured in a local newspaper as “Murray the Artist.” Since then, he has nurtured and expanded his talents and continues to earn local, national, and international attention.
As a child, Eisner was enrolled in an Orthodox Jewish school which instilled in him the habit of questioning everything and taking no answers for granted. Another influence from this school was a teacher who once said, “There are two reasons for doing everything, the first of which is that there is a reason for doing it and the second is that there is no reason for not doing it.” These two mentalities became a large part of why he came to create art in the way he does: creatively, exploratively, and thoughtfully. After this schooling, Eisner attending the Pratt Institute in New York City and the University of Buffalo where he studied architecture, painting, and photography, among other artistic media. However, he grew frustrated by these and other courses, finding them too constrictive; instead, he often skipped class to paint on his own, which he felt was a better use of his creative energy. He also thought that this is what a “real artist” would do. As a result of this independent exploration, Eisner developed the unique style he has today.
Eisner was also influenced by the “hippie revolution” period in which he grew up. The zeitgeist popularizing the essential nature of peace, love, and understanding molded a great deal of his artistic sensibilities. Using a combination of oils, acrylics, and giclee printing, he infuses his artwork with these profound ideas in a captivating, enlightening, and funky way. He explains that his paintings are an attempt to achieve the free, expressive, natural way a child paints. Whether paintings like an adult or a child, Eisner has been very well-received, exhibiting and selling his art in numerous galleries in Florida, New York, Israel, and elsewhere.
